Transport is a major problem for people who are not as mobile as they used to be, and we are seeking to increase our pool of volunteer drivers, who will bring people to our activities and events and take them home safely afterwards.
Drivers help out once or twice per month, and without this service many of our older clients would be housebound, so it makes a tremendous difference! You need to have a valid, clean driving licence and be willing to socialise/communicate.
Our drivers provide a vital service in helping our clients to access our activities and events. Volunteers drive patients from their home to our venues around Harrogate, transporting them back home again later in the day. This is so much more than a car journey, it gives people who are feeling isolated the chance to get out of their houses, see their neighbourhood, see season changes and re-establish contact with their local community.
Driving Willingness to socialise/communicate
You will be asked to provide transport between 2 and 4 times per month, on a rota basis.

Supporting Older People provides a volunteer befriending service and group activities for older people (60+) living alone in the Harrogate District. Our aim is to prevent loneliness and support people to live independently in their own homes, whilst having an active social life. Our Befriending and Activities manager recruits and matches volunteers to individuals and supports them through the process. We also run a telephone and Skype befriending service. Our group activities include monthly Tea and talk events, singing group, outings and lunch club.
