Wellbeing Cafe Volunteer
Dementia Forward
Description of the role:

If you enjoy meeting people, chatting, playing games or doing crafts why not join our fabulous team of wellbeing volunteers? Our Time Together group for people living with dementia meets on a Tuesday afternoon in Harrogate. It’s a friendly fun group where you will join in with a variety of activities (including crafts, games and table tennis), chat with people over a cup of tea or a bowl of soup and generally make everyone feel welcome.

Volunteers also set up before the group, serve teas and coffees and clear up at the end of the session. It’s a great opportunity to do something to help your community, make new friends and feel good! Plus if you’re a dab hand at crafts or a bit of a pool shark, we love to find people who can share their hobbies and skills and bring them to the group.

Skills and qualities needed for the role:

No experience is necessary. We would welcome anyone who loves to get involved and enjoys meeting people.

Practical information:

There is no commitment to helping every week; you just let us know which weeks you can help out. We aim to have three or four volunteers at each session, so it’s a great opportunity to get to know like-minded people. We ask volunteers to arrive 1 hour before the session starts, if at all possible, to help with the set up of the activities.

We offer a Dementia Awareness session for all our volunteers. The group is based at Christ Church in Harrogate, so your own transport to the venue is essential. We can reimburse reasonable travel expenses on a discretionary basis. We are more than happy for friends to come to the group together as volunteers.
